Barbara Wood's Biography

This artist is a native of Columbus, Ohio, and as an "only, lonely" child was encouraged by her mother to sketch and paint. "It seemed I was always on the inside looking out" and art allowed her to express her sensitivity. She attended Traphagen School of Fashion on a scholarship, but soon transferred to New York's Art Student's League to develop her fine arts talent.

Fascinated with color, her canvases can be bold or vigorous or have a poetic delicacy, stating that "for me, color is the music of painting." She focuses on women as her primary subject and brings fresh delight in her reflection of mood and intimate scenes, capturing the essence of a moment others have experienced. At first glance, the effect is simplicity, but closer scrutiny reveals a canvas of deep complexity.

Over the past three decades, Wood has painted with vitalized energy, becoming an international artist. Her list of collectors is a virtual "Who's Who" of celebrities and collectors around the world. She has exhibited in many one woman shows across the country and internationally.
