Americo Cala's Biography

Born in Cuzco, Peru, in 1964, Americo Cala was interested in painting, and specifically in landscape painting since he was 6 years old. The son of an artisan, Cala helped his father in his craft since he was 3 years old. From this experience he developed a sense of discipline and commitment to artwork. When he was 10 years old, Cala could be found frequently at the ateliers of the best artists of Cuzco.

Cala studied painting at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes in Lima and finished in an unusually short period of 5 years. Despite strong opposition during his years at school, Cala continued to paint landscapes and developed a realistic technique, reminiscent of old European masters.

Cala's paintings are in the most important art collections of Peru, having been shown at the most exclusive galleries.
