Gil Mateu was born in Burgos, Spain in 1945. He'studied art at the Fine Arts School in Madrid, where he finished his studies and began exhibiting all over the Madrid area. More recently, he has begun exhibiting in other Spanish areas such as Valencia, Catalonia and Cantabria., participating in both individual and collective shows.
Mateu primarily paints subjects which combine figurative and landscape in a neo-impressionistic manner. Scenes reflecting the villages and countryside of the old "Castilla" are the basis of all his paintings. The figures Mateu paints are the reflection of the "cotidian labour", who breathe the joy by taking part in the pure and natural atmosphere of the Spanish countryside.
